The Music

At the moment, the block test is set to Chemical Brothers' “Block Rockin' Beats”, but this won't be the sound track for the final piece. I do like Block Rockin' Beats, but it's too well known, and therefore makes the project cheesy. Also, there are copyright issues...

So instead, I have the multi-talented Josh Smith (you can listen to his music on his site). I first encountered his music when watching the major project of a former student. I really liked the music on that project, and it's what made me decide I wanted music on my project, preferably original music. So when Josh Smith sent an e-mail out to us, saying that he had enjoyed making the sound track for David Loh's “Buster dimp and the Demonic Bead Master” (David posted a thread on the ncca forum about it, you can download the film on his website), and would like to do some more, I immediately hacked into the central server, deleted his e-mail from everybody else's accounts, and got him to do the music for my project (at knife point, in the dark, knee deep in water).

I think Josh is on the interactive media course (but don't quote me on that... as in, don't say to someone “Josh Smith is on the interactive media course, ask Michael, he knows” because I don't). As well as interactive mediaing, Josh likes to make music. I've got him permanently locked in my cellar, eating fish heads and stale bread, until he has completed his task. I regularly beat him, but I'd describe our professional relationship as really quite healthy...

But seriously, I don't really beat him. I have people who do that for me. But I think Josh's music is really cool, making me think of the Crystal Method, Chemical Brother, Leftfield... he's already sent me a template and it's sounding very good indeed. Every now and then I tentatively make a bit of constructive criticism, but he snarls at me and tries to bite me, so I generally avoid him as much as possible. I think he may be some kind of genius, and that there's a perfectly normal reason for his ritualistic self mutilation.

In any case, have a listen on his website, and don't believe anything I tell you about him (I simply don't know anything... I've only met him in person once).
